Item type:Publication, Workplace Stress and Physiological Indices Correlation Study Results(Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, 2021-07-01); ; ; Objective: Numerous studies demonstrated that while performing diverse routines in hospitals, nurses often face overcommitment and low social support. We have aimed in this study to address work-related stress level of nurses working at referral hospitals in Mongolia through determining the stress induced changes in blood pressure as well as alpha-amylase level in saliva. Methods: The study involved a totally of 473 nurses from tertiary referral hospitals of Mongolia. We employed the Work Stress Profile questionnaire of Rice and Likert scale in measuring the questions. Additionally, we measured the α-amylase level in the saliva of nurses. The arterial blood pressure, level of glucose in blood and heart pulse were evaluated by a cross-sectional model. Results: The study was conducted by collecting an age group similar to the age pyramid of nurses working in referral hospitals. The participants illustrated low levels of work stress in 7.6%, medium levels in 27.1%, and high levels of work stress in 65.3%, respectively. When we examine whether the level of stress exposure of nurses differs between the groups by high, medium, and low levels of workplace stress, the analysis of one factor variance confirms the statistical real difference (F = 3.071), (p = 0.028). The study results revealed that long lasting accumulated work stress triggers hypertension. Conclusion: The workplace stress of the nurses depends on many different physiological factors. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Translation and Validation of the Mongolian Version of the Childbirth Experience Questionnaire(SAGE Publications, 2021); ;Togoobaatar, Ganchimeg ;Fukuzawa, Rieko Kishi; Women's experiences of childbirth have a significant impact on mother and child health and well-being as well as quality of care. A valid and reliable tool is needed to assess women's experience. This study aim was to adapt the Childbirth Experience Questionnaire to the Mongolian context and assess its psychometric properties. The study conducted between October and January 2019 at the public maternity hospital in Ulaanbaatar by recruiting a total of 828 low-risk postpartum women. The response rate was 92% (n = 761). Confirmatory factor analysis indicated a good fit for the 4-factor model. Reliability was good for the overall instrument (Cronbach's alpha = 0.83) and for individual domains (Cronbach's alphas ranging from 0.45 to 0.80). The overall and domain scores were significantly higher among women who had previous birth experience, who did not receive oxytocin augmentation, and who experienced a shorter labor duration (<12 h).The Mongolian version of the Childbirth Experience Questionnaire is a valid and reliable tool for exploring the childbirth experience. It can be used to promote women-centered, respectful care in maternity hospitals.Scopus© Citations 2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Validation of the parent version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) to screen mental health problems among school-age children in Mongolia(2021-04) ;Aoki, Ai ;Ganchimeg, Togoobaatar; ; Gundegmaa, LkagvasurenBACKGROUND: Child and adolescent mental health problems are urgent health issues in low- and middle-income countries. To promote child and adolescent mental health services, simple validated screening tools are helpful. In Mongolia, the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), an internationally used child and adolescent mental health screening tool for children aged 4-17, was translated but not yet validated. To use the questionnaire appropriately, validation is necessary. METHODS: Children at 4th year at elementary school (community sample) and children visited psychiatric outpatient service (clinical sample) were recruited and their parental version of the SDQ was compared. The discriminating ability of the parental version of the SDQ was examined using Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) analysis on the SDQ total difficulties score. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) was used as a measure. Cut-off score was determined by normative banding that categorizes children with the highest 10% score range as abnormal and the second highest 10% as borderline following the original method; this cut-off score was compared with the cut-off score candidates with good balance between sensitivity and specificity using ROC analysis. RESULTS: We included 2301 children in the community sample, and 429 children in the clinical sample. Mean age was 9.7 years (SD 0.4, range 8.3-12.0) among the community sample and 10.4 years (SD 3.8, range 4.0-17.8) among the clinical sample. The mean total difficulties score was 12.9 (SD 4.8) among the community sample and 20.4 (SD 6.2) among the clinical sample. A total of 88.8% of the community sample and 98.8% of the clinical sample answered the SDQ. Using ROC analysis, the AUC was 0.82 (95% confident interval 0.80-0.85), which meant moderate discriminating ability. Using normative banding, the borderline cut-off score was 16/17 and abnormal cut-off score was 19/20. For cut-off scores of 16/17 and 19/20, sensitivity was 71.9 and 53.8% and specificity was 78.5 and 90.5%, respectively. The cut-off score candidates by ROC analysis were 16/17 and 17/18. CONCLUSIONS: The parental version of the SDQ had moderate discriminating ability among Mongolian school-age children. For the screening of mental health problems among community children, cut-off score of 16/17 is recommended.Scopus© Citations 17 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Non-invasive detection for work stress among the professional medical nurses during COVID-19 in MongoliaCOVID-19 pandemic has created a lot of work stress, especially among medical professionals, namely among nurses. The absence of the non-invasive stress detecting method using salivary alpha-amylase test in Mongolia served us to perform this study. We consider that the nurse immunization could be managed and boosted if the work stress is detected, and it would serve as the prevention method from the infections in the clinical settings. The study aims to investigate the stress level among medical professionals, particularly the nurses, using a self-report questionnaire, work stress profile, and salivary alpha-amylase during the initial period of the COVID pandemic. In the mid of March 2020, 356 professional medical nurses from three national tertiary centres of Mongolia were involved in this study. We employed a Work Stress Profile (WSP), a self-administered questionnaire that assists the personnel to identify their perceived stressors and assessing the stress at work. As the physical stress marker, we measured the saliva alpha-amylase level in these participants. The vital signs, heart rate, glucose and blood pressure were measured. The correlation method was used. There were 344 females and 12 males. The participants' mean age was 38±9.6 years old. The stress among the medical professionals was high by WSP - it was counted 342 or 96.1% of the personnel suffering from the stress at work: the WSP average was 151.49±26.81. However, age, education and work experience could influence stress at a certain level. The salivary alpha-amylase and WSP scores were correlated directly (p<0.01; r=0.187). The pulse, diastolic blood pressure and salivary alpha-amylase were interrelated. As one of the important personnel at the hospital, nurses are at high risk to get stressed in Mongolia. We concluded that the overloading of work leads to work stress among professional medical nurses, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.Scopus© Citations 1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Quality of life of mothers of children and adolescents with mental health problems in Mongolia: associations with the severity of children's mental health problems and family structure(2022) ;Aoki, Ai ;Togoobaatar, Ganchimeg; ; BACKGROUND: In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), most parents of children with mental health problems receive limited support from social and health services while caring for their children. However, research on the quality of life (QOL) of these parents in LMICs is limited. This study aimed to investigate the association between maternal QOL and children's mental health problems, and other related factors in Mongolia. METHODS: A cross-sectional analysis of children aged 4-17 years who lived in Ulaanbaatar and visited the National Mental Health Centre in Mongolia and their mothers was conducted. The mothers' QOL was assessed using the WHOQOL-BREF, and the severity of children's mental health problems was assessed using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Multivariate linear regression analyses were performed using the mothers' WHOQOL domain scores as dependent variables and the children's SDQ scores and demographic and socioeconomic factors as explanatory variables. RESULTS: A total of 242 child-mother dyads were included in this study, and 231 dyads were included in the multivariate regression analyses. Children's SDQ internalising scores were negatively associated with all four maternal QOL domain scores, while their externalising scores were negatively associated with maternal physical and psychological domain scores. Non-cohabitation of fathers was negatively associated with physical, social, and environmental domain scores, and non-cohabitation of grandparents was associated with psychological and environmental domain scores. CONCLUSIONS: In Mongolia, maternal QOL is influenced by the severity of children's mental health problems and family member support. These findings highlight the importance of developing systems to support all families.Scopus© Citations 4
