Introduction: According to the National Center for Trauma and Orthopedics, 115.273 new injuries were registered in Mongolia in 2020. As of 2020, the number of falls-related injuries is 41.5 percent. 4.2 percent of all accidents were caused by injuries while playing sports. In 2020, 12,699 of the patients who received medical care due to injuries had ankle and foot injuries. Ankle ligament sprains are the most common injury for all sports, accounting for 15% of all reported injuries. Purpose: To determine the effect of 1/2, 1/3, and V lock types of stirrup taping for ankle movement while walking. Subjects and Methods: Twenty-eight healthy adult men were selected, and participants were aged 23.0±0.9. Informed about the procedures and sign an informed consent. All components of the standard taping procedure comprised of non-elastic tape and elastic bandage handy cut type (EBH) tape. The measure of passive and active range of motion (ROM) used a goniometer before and after gait. The subject sits on the bed, uses the pillow under the knee in the measurement of ankle joint dorsiflexion and plantarflexion ROM. The center of the fulcrum of the goniometer was placed over the lateral malleolus, the proximal arm of the goniometer was placed over the line from the fibular head to the lateral malleolus, and the distal arm was aligned parallel to the fifth metatarsal. The subject assumes a prone position with the foot and ankle hanging over the end of the tabletop. The angle of the bisection of the posterior calcaneus and the posterior one-third of the lower leg was measured with the goniometer axis at the level of the subtalar joint posteriorly. If no change was found in the amount of pronation of the subtalar joint then the measurement was recorded as subtalar joint pronation. Results: In this study, we found that the 1/2 stirrup taping has the most effective to limit the range of motion of the ankle joint when walking. There was also no time difference during the walking cycle between the no taping and taping groups in the form of stirrup taping. Conclusion: This study was performed to determine the effect of various wrapping ways of stirrup taping for ankle movement. The 1/2 stirrup taping restricts more outward movement below the ankle compared to the 1/3, V lock stirrup taping. It is considered that 1/2 stirrup taping has a high density covering the center of the talus so that the braking force becomes stronger. Rovere et al reported that applying external support to the ankle reduced the number of injuries by 66%. The reduction of ankle injuries may be due to the external support's decreasing the inversion-eversion ROM of the ankle. L Chinn et al reported results of our study are consistent with the fact that in people with chronic unstable ankle injuries, the amplitude of the outward rotational movement decreases below the ankle during the walking phase when walking after taping. Taping has been shown to be clinically important in kinematics.
