Item type:Publication, Prevalence of major noncommunicable diseases and risk factors by region: Findings from the National Screening(Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, 2025-12-26); ;Enkh-Amgalan, Enkhtuguldur; ; Objective: Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, accounting for the majority of premature deaths. Mongolia faces a particularly high burden of cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes, contributing to over 80% of total deaths. This study aimed to examine the prevalence of major NCDs and associated risk factors among the adult population of Mongolia by region. Methods: This study utilized large-scale screening data from the mass screening program of adults aged over 18 years. Results: A total of 447,409 adults were included in the analyses. High prevalence of NCD risk factors was observed, including smoking (16.6-19.1%), alcohol use (5.9-11.7%), physical inactivity (76%–80%), and insufficient fruit and vegetable intake (63%–79%). Regional comparison showed that the Northern region had the highest rates of smoking (19.2%), alcohol use (13.4%), and obesity (24.7%) (p<0.001). In contrast, Ulaanbaatar reported notably higher rates of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer disease (82.2%–18.5%) compared to other rural regions (p<0.001). Conclusion: NCD risk factors are common across all regions of Mongolia, with clear differences between them. Notably, the urban population has higher rates of stomach and esophageal inflammation and ulcers, likely linked to lifestyle factors and obesity. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Results of the National Study of CLEIA Method for the Prevalence of HBV and HCV in the 40-64 Age Population of Mongolia(Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, 2019-09-25); ; ; ; Objective: Using high-sensitivity test results of CLEIA we aimed to investigate the prevalence of hepatitis B and C virus, and compare levels of AST, ALT, M2BPGI in the Mongolian population in the age between 40-64. Methods: In order to reflect the administrative and geographical features of Mongolia, the sampling was done at three levels: urban, province center, and rural. Immunological test was measured by chemiluminescence enzyme immunoassay (CLEIA). The statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) version 25 was used for the statistical analyses. Results: The survey covered 3196 people. 71.8 percent of the patients surveyed had a negative in hepatitis test. 10.1 percent had a positive HBsAg test. 17 percent had a positive anti-HCV test. 1.1 percent had both a positive both HBsAg and anti-HCV (<.0001). AST and ALT increased more frequently during co-infection. M2BPGI protein average level in the non-infected group was 1.00 C.O.I, in the HBsAg positive group 1.65 C.O.I, in the anti-HCV positive group 1.83 C.O.I, and in the co-infection group 1.87 C.O.I (<.0001). Conclusion:10.1 percent of 40-64year-olds in Mongolia were infected with hepatitis B virus, and 17 percent had Hepatitis C virus and 1.1 percent had hepatitis B and C virus co-infections. Serum M2BPGi is increasing in hepatitis C virus infection and in co-infection. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing Standard Triple and Sequential Regimens for Helicobacter pylori Eradication(Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, 2016-11-25); ; ; ; Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare effectiveness of sequential therapy to the standard triple therapy to eradicate Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in Mongolia. Methods: From September 2014 to February 2016, 140 patients with confirmed H. pylori infection (upper gastrointestinal tract (GI) endoscopy, rapid urease test, histology, H. pylori stool antigen test (HpStAg)) randomly received 10 days standard triple therapy (20 mg pantoprazole, 1 g amoxicillin, 500 mg clarithromycin, all twice daily for 10 days; STT group, n = 70), and sequential therapy (20 mg pantoprazole, 1 g amoxicillin twice daily for 5 days followed by 20 mg pantoprazole, 500 mg clarithromycin, 500 mg metronidazole twice daily for 5 days; SQT group, n = 70). Successful eradication therapy for H. pylori infection was defined as a negative HpStAg test 4 weeks after the end of eradication treatment. Results: The eradication rates by intention to treat (ITT) analysis were 71.4% (50/70) and 50% (35/70) in the STT and SQT groups, respectively (p = 0.033). The eradication rates by per-protocol (PP) analysis were 72.5% (50/69) and 51.5% (35/68) in the STT and SQT groups, respectively (p = 0.018). The adverse event rates were 7.6% (5/70) and 18.6% (13/70) in the STT and SQT groups, respectively (p = 0.043). Conclusion: The eradication rate was significantly higher in the STT group compared with the SQT group. But the eradication efficacies of both STT and SQT for H. pylori infection in Mongolia are unacceptable. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Initial Trials With Susceptibility-Based and Empiric Anti-H. pylori Therapies in Mongolia(Frontiers Media SA, 2019); ; ; ; Background: Mongolia has a high prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric cancer. We conducted a prospective, randomized, single-blind study to evaluate the efficacy of common regimens in Mongolia and to obtain specimens for susceptibility testing. Methods: Empiric treatments: 270 patients with confirmed H. pylori infection were randomized to receive 10 days clarithromycin-triple therapy (Clari-TT) (n = 90), modified bismuth quadruple therapy (M-BQT) (n = 90), or sequential therapy (ST) (n = 90). A second group of 46 patients received susceptibility-based Clari-TT. H. pylori was cultured from 131 patients and susceptibility testing was performed. H. pylori eradication was confirmed by stool antigen 4 weeks after the therapy. Results: Intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis cure rates were 71.1% (95% CI = 61.7-80.5%) for Clari-TT, 87.8% (95% CI = 81-94.6%) for M-BQT, 67.8% (95% CI = 58.1-77.5%) for ST vs. 89.1% (95% CI = 86-98.2%) for susceptibility-based Clari-TT. Per-protocol (PP) analysis results for these therapies were 72.7% (63.4-82%), 89.8% (83.5-96.1%), 68.5% (58.8-78.2%), and 97.6% (89.5-99.8%), respectively. Among 131 cultured H. pylori, resistance rates to amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and metronidazole were 8.4, 37.4, and 74%, respectively. Conclusion: In Mongolia, the prevalence of H. pylori resistance is high requiring bismuth quadruple therapy or susceptibility-based therapy to obtain acceptable cure rates.Scopus© Citations 12 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Antibiotic resistance of Helicobacter pylori in Mongolia(2017-12) ;Bolor-Erdene, Mandkhai; ;Yamaoka, YoshioINTRODUCTION: The resistance of Helicobacter pylori to recently available antibiotic treatment regimens has been recognized as a growing problem. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of antibiotic resistance among H. pylori strains isolated from Mongolians. METHODOLOGY: All gastric biopsy specimens were obtained during upper gastrointestinal endoscopy from patients referred for the exploration of dyspepsia. The urease positive samples by rapid urease test were cultured according to standard microbiological procedures and H. pylori were grown under microaerophilic conditions on selective Pylori agar. H. pylori antibiotic sensitivity was examined using E-test. In addition, the mutations of the corresponding gene were studied by GenoType HelicoDR DNA strip testing. RESULTS: Three hundred twenty patients, 216 female and 104 male in the ages range of 18 to 83 years were included in this study. Rapid urease test yielded positive results for 65.9% (211/320). Among them, we have successfully obtained 72% H. pylori isolates. The antibiotic resistance rates were 35.5% for clarithromycin, 68.4% metronidazole, 23.0% amoxicillin, 25.0% tetracycline, 28.2% erythromycin and 14.5% nitrofuranton. Resistance for 2 drugs was 34.5% and that of 3 drugs was observed in 14.5% of isolates. The most prevalent mutation was A2147G followed by A2146G and D91Y. The prevalence of H. pylori infection increased among Mongolian population and the prevalence of resistance of H. pylori is very high to metronidazole, and moderate to clarithromycin. CONCLUSION: The data on antimicrobial susceptibilities provided by the present study is may assist the clinicians on the effectiveness of treatment regimens.Scopus© Citations 11
