Item type:Publication, Adiponection/Leptin Ratio and Insulin Resistance among Mongolians with Metabolic Syndrome(Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, 2018-03-25) ;Batnaran Dagdan; ; Objectives: In this study, we aimed to determine the relationship between adiponectin/leptin (A/L) ratio and insulin resistance among Mongolian subjects with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Methods: The study was comprised of 364 adults. Fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, and high density lipoprotein cholesterol were measured. Serum adiponectin and leptin were measured using enzyme-linked-immunoassay. Low density lipoprotein cholesterol and homeostatic model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) were calculated. Results: Serum adiponectin was inversely correlated with diastolic blood pressure, body mass index, waist circumference, serum triglyceride, and fasting insulin level (r=-0.118, r=-0.190, r=-0.244, r=-0.231, and r=-0.165, respectively) (p<0.001). Serum leptin was significantly correlated with all risk factors of metabolic syndrome, except for lipid parameters (p<0.001). In the multiple regression analysis, HOMA-IR was significantly associated with adiponectin and A/L ratio among males with MetS, after adjustment for other factors. Conclusion: The A/L ratio was a significant predictor for insulin resistance among male adults with MetS. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Higher Leptin Level among Mongolians with Metabolic Syndrome as a Predictor of Cardiovascular Risk(Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, 2017-02-25) ;Batnaran Dagdan; ;Orgil Sengeragchaa; Objectives: The focus of our research was to determine and identify the cutoff level of leptin in Mongolian adults with metabolic syndrome (MS). Methods: This observed case-controlled study was performed with 259 adults (mean age 40.35±10.75; range 18-71 years old). A questionnaire and anthropological measurements were used for obtaining data. Fasting blood sugar, serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL, adiponectin, leptin, and insulin were measured in fasting blood together with LDL and HOMA-IR calculations. Sensitivity and specificity were estimated for each leptin measurement, using MS as the outcome. These values were used to construct a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results: Average leptin levels of the group with MS were 10.97±11.32 ng/ml and 23.86±11.32 ng/ml in males and females, respectively. The average leptin level of participants with MS was 17.23±1.59 ng/ml, which was significantly higher than the control group by 10.80±1.58. The MS exposed group had a much higher level of leptin than the control group (p<0.001). Leptin was the predictor of MS in both sexes (AUC-0.839, p<0.0001 for men and AUC-0.737, p<0.0001 for women). Conclusion: Leptin levels in the MS exposed group were higher than in the control group. Leptin may be a useful biomarker of cardiovascular risk in Mongolian adults. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Association of Candidate Gene Polymorphism with Metabolic Syndrome among Mongolian Subjects: A Case-Control Study(2020-09); ;Sengeragchaa, Orgil; ; Dagdan, BatnaranMetabolic syndrome (MetS) is complex and determined by the interaction between genetic and environmental factors and their influence on obesity, insulin resistance, and related traits associated with diabetes and cardiovascular disease risk. Some dynamic markers, including adiponectin (ADIPOQ), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and lipoprotein lipase (LPL), are implicated in MetS; however, the influence of their genetic variants on MetS susceptibility varies in racial and ethnic groups. We investigated the association of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-SNP interactions among nine SNPs in six genes with MetS's genetic predisposition in Mongolian subjects. A total of 160 patients with MetS for the case group and 144 healthy individuals for the control group were selected to participate in this study. Regression analysis of individual SNPs showed that the ADIPOQ + 45GG (odds ratio (OR) = 2.09, p = 0.011) and P+P+ of LPL PvuII (OR = 2.10, p = 0.038) carriers had an increased risk of MetS. Conversely, G allele of LPL S447X (OR = 0.45, p = 0.036) and PGC-1α 482Ser (OR = 0.26, p = 0.001) allele were estimated as protective factors, respectively. Moreover, a haplotype containing the G-P+-G combination was related to MetS. Significant loci were also related to body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure (SBP), serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), triglyceride (TG), and fasting blood glucose (FBG), adipokines, and insulin as well as insulin resistance (p < 0.05). Our results confirm that ADIPOQ + 45T > G, LPL PvII, and PGC-1α Gly482Ser loci are associated with MetS in Mongolian subjects.Scopus© Citations 12
