    Effect of Antischemin Preparations on Platelet Hyperactivity in Diabetic Rabbit Model
    (Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, 2021-04-01) ; ; ;
    Objectives: We aim to investigate how antischemin preparation affects the platelet parameters in a rabbit model with alloxan induced diabetes. Methods: Rabbits were divided into 4 groups; group 1 or control group, group 2 or no antischemin group without medication, group 3 or experimental group and group 4 or comparing group. Specific parameters such as PLT, PWD, MPV, P-LCR and PCT concentration were measured on day 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28. Results: Treatment of the no antischemin group with 6% alloxan monohydrate only resulted in a significant increase of platelet level and reached the highest value at 28th days (336.5 ± 21.2). When animals pre-treated simultaneously with antischemin for 5 days, the level of platelets did not increase significantly, compared to that in the non-treated group. After treatment of this group with 6% alloxan monohydrate, at the end of the trial (28 day), the platelet level was 274.7 ± 6.2 g/L, and in the clopidogrel pre-treated group, it was 274 ± 13.9 g/L. In the non-treated group, during the first 21 days, alloxan monohydrate caused a slight increase in PDW levels. Conclusions: Numerous studies revealed that botanical extracts which have been widely used as medicinal agents show potent anti-diabetic activity. Due to the serious side effects or resistance on synthetic drugs that are used in diabetes, the approach of using herbal remedies could be a successful alternative to the currently available diabetic treatments.

    Objectives: This study aims to survey the prevalence and risk factors of hypertension (HTN) among nurses. Methods: Data was collected from 528 nurses of 23 hospitals in Ulaanbaatar (UB) and local hospitals in other regions. We randomly selected day-shift only nurses (264) and shift nurses (264), collected blood samples, administered a health survey questionnaire, and processed data with SPSS 19.0 statistic software. Results: Overall, 8% of participants who work for shift and 7.2% of day working nurses are smokers (p<0.0001). 3.2% of shift working nurses and 3.8% day working nurses use overuse alcohol (p<0.0001). The day working nurses and the shift working nurses and compared their BMI to measured normal (42.1% and 36.4%) overweight (39.7% and 43.9%), obesity (18.2% and 19.7%) (p<0.02), central obesity normal (39.4% and 34.5%), and central obesity≥ 80 (60.6% and 65.5%), body fat percentages are normal (29.2% and 16.1%) and increase (70.8% and 73.9%), visceral obesity are normal (65.9% and 63.3%) and increase (34.1% and 36.7%). Nurses (day-work and shift-work) who have arterial HTN are detected by normal (72.3% and 59.1%), prodromal period (14.4% and 16.7%), 1st stage (12.1% and 19.7%), 2nd stage (1.2% and 4.5%) (p><0.002). central obesity normal (39.4% and 34.5%), and central obesity≥ 80 (60.6% and 65.5%), body fat percentages are normal (29.2% and 16.1%) and increase (70.8% and 73.9%), visceral obesity are normal (65.9% and 63.3%) and increase (34.1% and 36.7%). Nurses (day-work and shift-work) who have arterial HTN are detected by normal (72.3% and 59.1%), prodromal period (14.4% and 16.7%), 1st stage (12.1% and 19.7%), 2nd stage (1.2% and 4.5%) (p<0.002). Working time of nurses detected that shift working nurses’ arterial hypertension amount is higher than day time working nurses. Conclusion: 24.2% of shift working nurses have HTN is showed that higher than day time working nurses. Hypertension is directly related to overweight, obesity, visceral obesity and high blood glucose level. (p<0.0001). ><0.0001).

    Blood Donors with Different Types of Human Constitution Demonstrate Different Level of Cytokines
    (Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, 2018-06-25) ;
    Soodoi, Chimedtseren
    ;
    ; ;
    Objective: This study was aimed to determine possible relationship between the types of human constitution used in Mongolian traditional medicine and certain types of immune response in healthy blood donors. Materials and methods: Ninety-three blood donors were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. The type of human constitution was determined using the method of Sachs R (1995) and modifi ed by Batchimeg et al. (2003), in which the titer of cytokines (Human IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, IFNγ and TGFβ) in blood plasma and in supernatant of 12- hour PBMC culture were measured by ELISA. Results: Analysis and comparison of different cytokine titers in different constitution groups produced the following fi ndings: Subjects with Badgan ( Tibetan-badken, or phlegm, or bile) type of constitution had a lower activity of Th2 mediated immune response; subjects with Shar ( Tibetan-mkrispa [kris-pa] or mucus) humour domination had a higher activity of Th2 mediated response; and subjects with Khii humour domination may demonstrate higher activity of Th1 mediated response. Conclusion: Human typology types used in Mongolian traditional medicine are likely related to activity or intensity of certain types of adaptive immune responses and authors see an essential need to continue research in this fi eld of study.

    Objectives: To examine the therapeutic effects of buteelch-5, a traditional formula on DSS-induced colitis in C57/BL6 mice and its possible mechanisms. Methods: Colitis in mice was induced by oral administration of 5% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) for seven days. On the eighth day after administration of DSS, buteelch-5 (500 mg/kg, twice a day) was given orally to mice for five consecutive days. Ciprofioxacin (50 mg/kg, once a day for 5 days) was given to mice as a comparison. Two hours after the last administration of buteelch-5 and ciprofioxacin, mice were euthanized, and colon tissues were removed. Protein and mRNA levels of occludin, claudin-1 and zonula occludens (ZO)-1 in colon tissues were determined by western blot and real time-qPCR respectively. Histopathological analysis of colon tissues was performed. Results: Histological analysis revealed successful establishments of colitis models. Treatment with buteelch-5 markedly inhibited DSS-induced colon injury. Furthermore, buteelch-5 increased (2.14-2.67 fold) the occludin, claudin and ZO-1 protein and mRNA levels in colon tissues of mice administered with DSS. Significant increase was observed in occludin mRNA levels after buteelch-5 treatment (p<.05). Conclusion: Buteelch-5 improves microscopic inflammation and increases tight junction protein expressions such as occludin, claudin, and ZO-1 in mice with DSS-induced colitis.

    Objective: This study was aimed to assess the clinical outcomes of traditional manual therapy. Methods: Patients between 16–70 years of age with lower back pain received a 10-day course of rhythmical vibration based traditional manual therapy. Scoliosis angle, vertebral rotation, and intervertebral space were measured pre- and post-treatment using goniometry and radiographic analysis. Results: Significant improvements were observed in all assessments after therapy (p < 0.001). The average scoliosis angle increased by 1 – 2 degrees, vertebral rotation decreased by 2 – 4 mm while intervertebral space expanded by 1.2 – 1.6 mm, indicating improved spinal symmetry. Conclusions: Traditional manual therapy demonstrated measurable radiographic improvements in spinal alignment and intervertebral spacing, suggesting its clinical potential in managing in lower back pain through non-invasive correction of musculoskeletal dysfunctions.

    Use of Traditional Mongolian Medicine in Children with Concussion
    (1) Background: There is no specific treatment for concussion in modern medicine, and existing treatment is only limited to resting and restoring cognition. For centuries, Mongolians have used traditional Mongolian medicine (TMM) methods to treat a variety of diseases such as Baria zasal. In this study, we aimed to explore the treatment parents and guardians seek when their children have suffered a concussion. (2) Methods: In this study, we used an online questionnaire. The study participants (n = 400) were randomly selected parents and guardians. The definition of bariachi is an advanced practitioner of baria zasal, which covers most of the massage therapy techniques mentioned in this study. (3) Results: In total, 72% of the parents and guardians went to a bariachi when their children suffered a concussion, while only 10.3% chose western medical hospitals. When asked what they did after the initial treatment was not effective, 47.8% of the participants responded that they went to the bariachi. Based on the days of treatment result, 11.8% reported on the beneficial effects of the treatment appearing in one day, and 60.3% in 1−3 days, which shows that the participants suffered a healing effect of the baria zasal shortly after application to their children. In the regression analysis, visiting a Bariachi was independent of age, gender, or even religion. (4) Conclusions: Although Western medicine is highly developed in Mongolia, the baria zasal of TMM has not lost its appeal in treating concussion. This suggests that baria zasal could be a unique method of concussion treatment even today. This also suggests that the techniques of Baria zasal should be further studied, and as in modern medicine.
